Annoying texts

There is no doubt that cell phones are extremely useful in these times. Off late, though, promotional calls and messages are being received by many cell-phone users at odd hours of the day. Many a times I have been woken up, at times in the middle of the night, just to listen to a recorded promotional advertisement. You feel more frustrated when you cannot tell anything to the caller, it being a recorded message.
What is the way out of this unnecessary disturbance caused by cellular service providers? It is not possible to keep your phone switched off or on the silent mode all the times. Some control or check by the PTA over these cellular companies is necessary.
