LAKKI MARWAT: More than a dozen sacked health technicians have demanded the government to reinstate them.
In a joint statement on Saturday, they said that they were recruited under the Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI) and were posted at the basic health units in the district during the previous government.
“Besides performing our professional obligations, we played an effective role in eradication of polio and protecting children from nine deadly diseases,” the statement said.
They claimed that their efforts also helped to strengthen routine immunisation of children and reduce the number of refusals. They said that instead of regularising them, the present government sent them home. They said that later on protest by locals, local health authorities accommodated them in a Unicef-funded project to continue their key role in polio eradication initiatives.
