The army has just concluded Operation Khyber-II in the Khyber tribal area and allowed IDPs to return to their homes. According to media reports, the control of the area has been handed over to the political administration and tribal elders. The government has revived the old jirga system there to reclaim their collective territorial responsibility, which is also one of the clauses of the FCR.
On the one hand, Fata parliamentarians and tribal people are demanding the abolishment of the Frontier Crimes Regulation, while on the other our government wants to continue with some clauses of the draconian law. If the army does not want to remain in Federally-Administered Tribble Areas for an indefinite period then it should hand over the area to the Frontier Corps or the levies force instead of to the local administration.
