Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal (PBM) and Unicef joined hands to commemorate the spirit of mutual cooperation in the social welfare sector.
PBM Managing Director Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh and representative from Unicef Cristian Munduate signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at PBM’s head office, here on Thursday.
Addressing on the occasion, Barrister Abid Waheed Sheikh said that this project seeks to further strengthen the existing partnership between PBM and UNICEF ongoing since long, evidenced by the successful execution of an education conditional cash transfer (CCT) through PBM’s Child Support Programme.
He further told that after the adverse earthquake of 2015, the government as part of its humanitarian response announced a comprehensive package to support families in KPK who experience death, injury or damage to housing. District Chitral, being one of the most affected districts overall, with highest housing damage and having the greatest number of injuries, has been selected for financial compensation i.e. Rs3,000 among as many as 17,000 poorest of the poor families of district Chitral. MD PBM said that it was an impressive move that an International organization like UNICEF in Pakistan is making its valuable contribution for the uplift of the underprivileged along with Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal.
Talking on the occasion Cristian Munduate showed her confidence and trust in PBM’s ability to serve the poor community. She explained that this new initiative in District Chitral will help in realising the nutrition and health needs of children and women, especially in extreme weather conditions. Uicef representative eulogized the vision of Managing Director, Pakistan Bait-ul-Mal for well being of the marginalized segment of the society. She also assured PBM MD of Unicef’s support and showed determination to extend cooperation on different projects pertaining to poverty alleviation.
