LG polls: PPP leading in Sanghar, Mirza Group in Badin

SUKKUR: The PPP and the Mirza Group are leading the tally in Sanghar and Badin respectively in the local government elections held on Saturday.

According to unofficial results, the PPP won six seats of the town committees out of 11 and two seats of municipal committees out of three.

PPP won 47 seats of the union council chairmanships while PML-F just 23.

In this way, the PPP has knocked out the PML-F in the latter’s stronghold, Sanghar.

In Badin, Mirza Group won 34 seats and PPP 32.

Mirza Group alleged rigging and the group’s supporters staged a sit-in outside the office of the returning officer.

Local government elections were held for 497 seats in Sanghar.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results PPP won more than 100 seats while Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) candidates 57 seats.

Reports said that for ensuring law and order situation as many as 1,000 Rangers personnel and 7,000 policemen performed their duties at 692 polling stations.

Meanwhile, former speaker of the National Assembly, Fehmida Mirza, said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should take notice of the issue of missing ballot boxes in Kariya Ghor, Badin.
