SANGHAR: Barring a clash, polling for the election of local government representatives in the district concluded peacefully amid strict security arrangements.
The turnout is expected to remain between 50 to 60 per cent, while there were 724,340 registered voters in Sanghar. the polling process started at 7:30 am and continued till 5:30 pm without any break at 692 polling stations out of which 330 were declared highly sensitive and another 227 sensitive.
Polling could not begin at some polling stations at the scheduled time as the polling staff had not reached.
Two persons were injured in a clash between rival groups at a polling station of UC Manak Thaheem near Tando Adam. On the other hand, the PML-F boycotted elections at Poro Khan Umrani polling station over the change in its venue.
Voters had to vote to elect their representatives for a district council, three municipal committees, 10 town committees and 68 union councils. As many as 1,650 candidates of different political parties were in the field with a large number of independents as well. However, the real contest was between the PPP and PML-F.
