Apex Committee reviews security situation
PESHAWAR: The Apex Committee Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday reviewed the security situation in the wake of the terrorist attack on the Bacha Khan University in Charsadda and also the progress on the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP).
Chaired by Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan, the meeting decided that an investigation committee headed by commissioner Peshawar division would investigate the security arrangements on the day of attack at the Bacha Khan University. It would probe whether there was any negligence in the security arrangements and would fix responsibility and submit the report within five days.
The meeting reviewed the security situation in the province and Fata and the progress on implementation of NAP, said an official handout.The committee in particular focused on the investigation of the terrorist attack on Bacha Khan University.
Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Hidayat ur Rehman, chief secretary Amjad Ali Khan, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani and other officials attended the meeting.The handout said the meeting reaffirmed the commitment to take the terrorists and their facilitators to task.
It added that the military and political leadership of the province vowed that the terrorists and killers of innocent people would be brought to justice at all costs. It was decided that the security arrangements at all the educational institutions in the province would be reviewed and strict action taken in case of negligence by any institution.
The official handout said the meeting was also briefed about the action taken against the culprits and facilitators of brutal terrorist attacks.The meeting decided that to stop terrorism, the issues related to border management would be resolved on priority basis.
The handout said the 1125 emergency helpline would work round-the-clock. The Apex Committee appealed to citizens to remain vigilant with regard to their surroundings and report any suspicious person or activity on the given extension number. The committee urged the people to extend full support in the task of eradicating militancy and terrorism.
The handout said a summary will be forwarded to the federal government to resolve the issues of Frontier Constabulary in the province and for the effective implementation of NAP. The Apex Committee hoped the federal government would take concrete measures to this end.
On the occasion, Fateha was offered for those martyred in the attacks on the Bacha Khan University and the Karkhano market that took place a day earlier on January 19.“We will not allow the terrorists to continue their cowardly acts,” the governor told the meeting. He added that the whole nation was committed to uprooting the menace of militancy.Due to the successful military operation, the backbone of the terrorists has been broken and now they are targeting the innocent people and hitting soft targets,” he added.
