Mock security exercise held

OKARA: Acting Regional Police Officer Muhammad Faisal Rana Thursday witnessed a mock security exercise held at an educational institution.
The exercise was meant to keep security forces, students and staff of the institution alert to face any terror incident.
The district police and Eliot Force took part in the exercise and demonstrated excellence of performance and won praise of the RPO.
Talking to reporters, the RPO said all educational institutions in the district would have only one exit attached with an alert metal detector holder.
He said security guards would be employed in the institutions according to ratio of number of students.
Rana said police would check heights of boundary walls of all educational institutions and the Quick Response Force (QRF) would check the security arrangements in the institutions daily.
He said all principals of educational institutions would hold a panic button and the QRF would reach the site within 7 to 10 minutes to take-over the situation, when the button would be pressed in case of any emergency.
12 BOOKED: B-Division police booked 12 people for not informing about their stay in the city.
Police arrested Mushtaq Ahmad, Nadeem, Sadaqat Ali, Rashid, Yasir, Gulraiz, Shafique, Waseem and Sajjad from Fakhr hotel situated at city general bus-stand.
From Sabri Sarai the police arrested Ghulam Rasool, Asghar Ali and Sabir Mehmood.
KILN OWNER BOOKED: Police Thursday booked the district brick kiln association chairman on charges of employing three minors.
Police raided kiln of Sheikh Saqib of 53/2L village and found minors Asif, Babar and Irfan, who were busy in bonded labour.
50 families ordered to get
dangerous building of Auqaf Dept reconstructed

OKARA: DCO Sucrat Aman Rana has directed 50 families residing in Old Gurdwara, Phulianwala Chowk, to immediately renovate or reconstruct their flats, which are in dilapidated condition.
In a meeting here, he said that the Auqaf Department would not interfere in renovation and reconstruction work despite being owner of the building. Earlier, in the meeting, the residents told the DCO that the building was owned by the Auqaf Department and the possessors had been strictly banned to undertake any renovation or reconstruction of the building. Meanwhile, the DCO ordered owners 50 old buildings in the city, which were in dilapidated condition, to vacate them and undertake reconstruction work. About 16 dangerous buildings had already been got vacated for their reconstruction.
ILLEGAL BILLBOARDS: The people have demanded the DCO and the TMA remove illegal hoardings and billboards from city streets.
Reportedly, the TMA had issued licenses to raise 60 hoardings and billboards at vantage sites but 192 hoardings and billboards were raised in different parts of the city. The people said that the illegal billboards were causing financial loss to the TMA exchequer. They demanded the DCO take action against the TMA officials for not removing the illegal billboards.
