Swara case
KOHAT: The police on Thursday arrested jirga members for giving two minor girls in swara to settle a marriage dispute between two families.
Talking to reporters here, District Police Officer Sohaib Ashraf said that one Gul Muhammad, a resident of Darpakhel, North Waziristan, had allegedly kidnapped a girl whose family hails from Kurram Agency.
A jirga was held at Miangan Colony in Kohat which decided to marry off two sisters of the accused in the family of the kidnapped girl under the swara. One 12-year-old girl was married to the father of the kidnapped girl, 45-year-old Muslim Gul. The other minor girl, a two-year-old, was handed over to the jirga.
However, mother of the girls got registered a first information report of the incident at the Muhammad Riaz Shaheed Police Station. The police raided Miangan Colony and arrested the jirga members. Those arrested included Eid Gul, Amir Din, Zarmin, Yousaf, Jannat Mir, Wali Gul, Gul Muhammad and Muslim Gul. The police also arrested nikah khwan Fazal Hadi. The police also recovered two swara victim girls and the one who had been kidnapped.
