FAISALABAD: Sub-Inspector Rana Hafeezur Rehman, the Patrolling Police PRO, was gunned down by unidentified motorcyclists at Abdullahpur Bridge on Thursday.  Rana Hafeez was coming to Faisalabad on his motorcycle from his native village, Chak 204/RB, to attend a briefing at the Police Lines when the unidentified men shot him dead. Immediately after the incident, police set up pickets in the area but could not trace the culprits. Rana Hafeez has left behind a widow and two sons.

Meanwhile, Namaz-e-Janaza of Rana Hafeez was offered at the Police Lines, which was attended by RPO Ehsan Tufail, CPO Afzal Ahmad Kausar, SSP Patrolling Police Sardar Asif Khan, DPOs of all the three districts and a large number of police officials. Later, the body of the martyred policeman was dispatched to his native village for burial. The RPO and the CPO said that the killers would soon be arrested and tried in the Anti-Terrorism Court.

Online adds: The police officials said that the incident could be a result of an old enmity as Rana Hafeez and his brothers had recently sold an agricultural land. However, according to the sources, the incident was related to terrorism.
