Exports kickoff from Hyderabad dry port
KARACHI: Pakistan Customs has started processing export consignments from Hyderabad dry port after a gap of ten years, Federal Board of Revenue Member Dr Iqbal told The News on Thursday.
Molasses, ethanol, fruits and vegetables would be shipped from Hyderabad.
Other dry ports are already processing export consignments but there was no such activity from Hyderabad.
Chief Collector Enforcement South Mohammad Zahid Khokhar said the exports would be processed through WeBOC and it would have multiple benefits.
“Direct export from Hyderabad dry port would ease load on Karachi ports while local industrialists and agriculturists would have firsthand experience of processing the export consignments. They would not need to come all the way to Karachi.”
It may be mentioned here that export consignments processed at dry ports do not need Customs clearance at Karachi port and port Bin Qasim, as these containers are directly loaded on the vessels. Khokhar said this would also generate indirect employment opportunities at the dry port.
