KARACHI: Top seed Muzammil Murtaza survived Talha bin Asif scare in the pre-quarter-finals of Junior Under-18 singles event of Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Championships 2016 on Wednesday at S Dilawar Abbas PTF Tennis Complex in Islamabad.
Muzamil had to work very hard to take the first set 7-6 (4). However, in the second set, he showed supremacy over his unseeded opponent and won the set 6-1 to confirm his place in the quarter-finals in which he will face seventh seed Shoaib Khan.
In men’s singles pre-quarter-finals, Aqeel Khan thrashed Malik Abdul Rehman in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
Mohammad Muzammil dispatched Shahzad 6-1, 6-4, while Yasir Khan beat Shahid Afridi 7-5, 6-3.
Ahmed Chaudhry thrashed Shaheen Mehmood 6-0, 6-2.
Heera Ashiq overpowered Barkatullah 6-0, 6-3 and Mohammad Abid trounced Hamid-ul-Haq 6-0, 6-1.
Mudassar Murtaza defeated Nofil Kaleem 6-0, 6-4. Shahzad Khan blanked Jibran-ul-Haq, recording an immaculate 6-0, 6-0 victory.
