ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan has expressed a need to broaden the tax net to increase the revenues for economic stability and growth in the country.

While addressing a reception arranged by Anjuman-e-Tajran Islamabad on Wednesday, he said that tax collection was necessary to manage the imbalance between the different classes in the society.

“We are committed to simplifying the tax system by adopting a scientific and technical approach to broaden the tax net as adding such methods will increase the strength of the taxpayers,” he said.

He said the country has the required funds to develop health, education, and communication sectors for the benefit of the common man. The chairman said that without tax collection and broadening the tax net, the government would not be able provide the resources to develop these sectors in the country.

He said a welfare state was only possible through the collection of taxes from all sections of the society according to their financial strength, and to invest these resources for the alleviation of poverty from the country.  The FBR chairman said when a community does not pay taxes with honesty; the state goes for indirect and direct taxes.
