KARACHI: For the third time, the government of Sindh changed the Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) in the case pertaining to charges of provision of shelter to criminals against former federal minister and a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader, Dr Asim Hussain.
Advocate Ayaz Ahmed Tanyo has now been assigned to act as the SPP to represent the government in the terror case against Dr Asim Hussain.
Meanwhile, the anti-terrorism court (ATC-II) on Tuesday allowed Dr Asim Hussain to avail medical facilities as a board of doctors termed him mentally and psychologically upset and needing medical treatment. Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Waseem Akhtar also approached the court for confirming his bail plea and as the court directed him to submit sureties of rupees one million as bail amount, he said he was not in a position to deposit such a huge amount. The court then inquired about his job and he said, “I am a politician and the mayor of the city.”
The court inquired if he had succeeded in “cleaning the city” as a mayor and Waseem Akhtar said yes he had succeeded in cleaning half of the city. Upon this reply, the court said lightly that the court would be pleased to confirm his bail plea after he succeeded in fully cleaning the city. However the court permitted him to deposit the sureties of Rs500,000 (instead of one million) as a bail amount. Waseem Akhtar also talked to Dr Asim Hussain who was also present in the court and inquired about his health.
