PESHAWAR: An eminent journalist-turned academician, Dr Adeel Khan, died of a heart attack in Istanbul, Turkey.
He was 57. The family sources said the academician from Mardan, who had done doctorate in sociology from the University of Wollongog, News South Wales, Australia, and was based in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, had flown to Istanbul for holidaying. He suffered a silent heart attack at the hotel the other day which proved fatal.
The funeral prayer was offered in Istanbul on Monday and he was laid to rest there the same day. Some members of the family flew to Istanbul to attend the funeral. The late academician also worked as journalist before turning to the teaching profession. He served the English-language daily Dawn as assistant editor in Karachi till 1993.
The late soft-spoken scholar, who was popular for his thoughts, is survived by a widow, a brother, Amir Rasheed, and five sisters. He was the elder brother of Farzana Ali Khan, staff reporter of The News in Islamabad, and brother-in-law of Muhammad Haroon, Senior Manager Marketing, Jang Group, who is based in Peshawar.
