Old man covers few yards distance

in two hours at Jhang DHQ Hospital

From Our Correspondent

JHANG: A 70-year-old poor man had to shift his ailing wife, from emergency ward to an indoor ward, on his own as none of the DHQ hospital staff came to do his job.

Sources said that the poor man came to the medical emergency for treatment of his wife. The old man after check up of his wife was advised by the on-duty doctor and staffers to shift her to the indoor ward for further treatment. As no one in the hospital provided him stretcher and came to shift the woman, the old man put his wife on a bed, which brought with him, and started pulling it with his shawl. He reached the indoor ward after two hours.

As no duty doctor was available for indoor patients, the patient with her husband was waiting for free medicines and treatment in the hospital till the filling of the report.

Sources said that the Punjab government high-ups had authorised the district monitoring officer for monitoring government hospitals and health facilities, besides ensuring attendance of the officials but to no avail.

They said that taking notice of increasing public complainants, Punjab Ombudsman Javed Mehmood had also authorised his district coordinators to pay surprise visits to the government hospitals and health units.

When contacted, Health EDO Dr Zafar Khan said that the administrative and financial control of the hospital was with the MS, who could explain the issue in a better way. He said that the biometric attendance system had been introduced in the hospital and if anyone would file a complaint, a probe would be ordered. MS Dr Mumtaz Sial was not available on his mobile phone (0300-6500753).
