Balochistan largest market of non-Custom paid vehicles
ISLAMABAD: Balochistan has become the largest market of non-customs paid vehicles brought to Quetta via Afghanistan and Chaman border and are sold out on half of the actual price.
The sources informed ‘The News’ on condition of anonymity that the buyers of these non-customs paid vehicles came to Quetta from all over Pakistan and these vehicles including BMW, Land Cruiser and Mercedes were sold depending on the model and power of the vehicle. Price for the cheapest vehicles ranges from Rs5 million to Rs10 million.
The sources said many wealthy people were among the buyers of these vehicles. In Quetta, these illegal vehicles were sold on Joint Road, Dokani Baba Chowk, West Bypass Road, Satellite Town, Double Road, Jinnah Town, Khachlak and Saryab Road. The sources said that even many showrooms were involved in the illegal activities.
The sources said that to bring these vehicles safely from Chaman to Quetta, the dealers gave Rs5,000 to Rs10,000 bribe at police posts. On contact, Quetta Customs Collector Dr Saeed Jadoon said that they had taken about 300 non-customs paid vehicles into custody and the operation was started on the direction of the Supreme Court and with the help of FC and Police. He said that the law enforcing agencies had raided the showrooms of non-customs paid vehicles but after sometime, this operation was postponed by the FC due to volatile Balochistan situation.
Dr Saeed Jadoon further said that after this, they had filed a petition in Balochistan High Court for the provision of police and FC for raid on those showrooms involved in this illegal business.
