LG representatives take oath

BAHAWALPUR: Some 999 newly-elected representatives of local government were administered oath by their respective returning officers on Thursday.
Some 21 chairmen/vice-chairmen and 126 councillors of Bahawalpur Municipal Corporation, 88 chairmen/vice-chairmen and 524 councillors of district council Bahawalpur, 45 councillors of Municipal Committee Ahmadpur East, 34 councilors of Municipal Committee Hasilpur, 19 councilors of Municipal Committee Khairpur Tamiwali, 16 councillors of Yazman Municipal Committee and 13 councillors of Municipal Committee Uch Sharif were administered oath.
Four POs killed in Bahawalnagar police encounter

BAHAWALPUR: Four proclaimed offenders were killed in an encounter with Bahawalnagar’s Donga Bonga police near Basti Roda Singh on Thursday.
Talking to The News, Bahawalnagar DSP Syed Ali Raza Shah said that the killed POs were identified as Imtiaz alias Imtiazi Jhandika, Razzaq alias Razaki Cheena, Abbas Cheena and Fayyaz Korria. He said that they were wanted by Bahawalnagar and Pakpattan districts police in several cases of dacoity and murder. He said that the POs had gunned down a man and sister during a dacoity at Basti Rumanwali two days ago.
Meanwhile, the POs’ bodies were shifted to the Bahawalnagar DHQ Hospital for autopsy.
CASH TAKEN AWAY: Thieves stole Rs 170,000 from Maal Khana of Khairpur Tamewali police station.
Thieves entered the Maal Khana after breaking its roof and stole cash. Meanwhile, DPO Sarfraz Falki called a meeting of the police station staffers and censured them over the incident. It is learnt that the Maal Khana incharge has deposited the stolen money.
23 JAWANS INJURED: About 23 Jawans were injured after a truck of a sensitive agency turned turtle near Chak 91/DNB in Yazman Sadr police limits on Thursday. The incident took place due to a tyre burst. The injured were shifted to the Bahawalpur CHM.
