197 confiscated vehicles burnt in Gulshan

A major fire broke out in the Nazarat behind Aziz Bhatti park in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, turning at least 197 vehicles to ashes with three thatched huts on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Central Fire Station, the blaze first erupted in one of the abandoned vehicles at around 2:50pm and spread to other vehicles in a matter of minutes. It took a around four hours for eight fire tenders of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation to put out the fire.

The fire also engulfed three thatched huts situated nearby and burnt them to the ground as well.

Cause of the fire could not be ascertained but the Aziz Bhatti police claim to be investigating if arson was involved.

The watchman of the Nazarat has been taken into police custody and is being questioned.

 

Two die in road crashes 

Two people were killed and an army jawan was injured in two road accidents on Wednesday.

Rickshaw driver Abdul Bari, 30, was killed and a passenger, 35-year-od army jawan Younus, suffered injuries when a P-I route minibus collided with their rickshaw near Habib Bank Chowrangi in the SITE-A police limits.  

The rickshaw occupants had been going towards Orangi Town when they met with the accident.

The casualties were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital medico-legal formalities.

A passenger, Hamza, 40, died when he accidentally fell down from the roof of a W-11 route minibus near Pakistan Chowk in the Aram Bagh police jurisdiction.
