Registration of 61 inactive NGOs cancelled

GUJRANWALA: Registration of 61 inactive NGOs has been cancelled while 87 others have been issued show-cause notices, said Social Welfare District Officer Rana Mehboob.

Talking to The News here on Monday, he said that total 363 NGOs had been registered in Gujranwala and they were being monitored by the department. He said that those NGOs, which were inactive and had no record of accounts or audit would be dealt according to the rules.

 

Saudi-returned man murdered, robbed of Rs 800,000

GUJRANWALA: Two dacoits killed a man on resistance after robbing him of Rs 800,000 at Khokhar Kay on Jinnah Road on Monday.

Maqsood, 50, of Saharan Street had returned from Saudi Arabia about three days ago. On the day of the incident, the dacoits intercepted Maqsood outside his house and tried to rob him of the amount, which he drew from a bank, but he resisted. It infuriated the dacoits and they shot him dead. The dacoits escaped with the amount. Jinnah Road police have registered a case and started investigation.
