Head constable martyred in grenade attack in Peshawar
By News Desk
PESHAWAR: A police head constable embraced martyrdom on Friday when an unidentified attacker hurled a hand grenade on a police vehicle near a marketplace of Peshawar on Friday.
The police said action was under way against violations of Covid safety measures in the market located the outskirts of Peshawar and some of the violators were being taken to the police vehicle when an unknown man tossed a hand-grenade on the vehicle.
Resultantly, Head Constable Abne Ameen was gravely injured and rushed to the Hayatabad Medical Complex where doctors pronounced him dead. There were three minors injured in the incident, and were given first aid by the police.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan strongly denounced the attack and ordered the urgent arrest of the perpetrators. “Such cowardly acts cannot deter the resolve of our forces against the menace of anti-state activities,” he said. The police, he said, have rendered match less sacrifices for peace in the region. The provincial government, he said, will not abandon the aggrieved family in this critical time and extend all possible support to them.
Meanwhile, Peshawar’s top police officer, Abbas Ehsan, said investigations had begun into the grenade attack, adding that security was already on high alert as a polio vaccination drive was under way.
