Former senator of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement Col (retd) Tahir Hussain Mashhadi on Friday announced his decision of joining the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
The announcement to this effect was made by the former senator at a press conference that was also addressed by PPP Sindh President Nisar Ahmed Khuhro who welcomed Mashhadi’s decision to join the PPP.
The PPP leader advised the federal government to stop thinking of imposing unconstitutional means in Sindh. He claimed that a failed attempt had been made to impose a ‘prime minister’s rule’ in Sindh as the federal government of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) could not unconstitutionally impose the governor’s rule in the province. He said peoples’ rule would reign supreme in the province as he advised the federal government to be cautious in the pursuit of its dream to form the government in Sindh.
Khuhro remarked that the Centre should not threaten the PPP’s rule in the province as the people of Sindh were never frightened by such threats. He added that the PPP had served the people without any discrimination as it did not believe in discriminating people on the basis of ethnicity, colour, religion, language or sect.
He claimed that the PPP’s Sindh government had always given importance to Karachi and it was striving in a better way to serve the residents of Karachi in terms of public transport, civic infrastructure and water supply needs.
He said the concerned voters of Karachi had reposed confidence in the PPP in the recently held by-poll in Karachi. Khuhro also criticised the federal government for subjecting people of Sindh to prolonged power cuts. He said the dictatorial regime in the past had privatised the power utility of Karachi and this unlawful act had subjected the power consumers in the city to exploitation.
Mashhadi said on the occasion that he had decided to join the PPP after much deliberation as people from every community and ethnicity were part of the ruling party of the province. He appealed to the people of Karachi to lend support to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in his mission to develop the city and upgrade its infrastructure.
