Rawalpindi : Interior Minister Shaikh Rashid Ahmed Wednesday said that Leh Expressway project would be started this year on priority.
“Leh Expressway is very important for the residents of the city. The sitting government is eager to resolve public issues and ‘Leh Expressway’ is on top of the priority list. I know public is facing
several problems and I will try my level best to
resolve them,” he made the remarks in a conversation with media personnel during his visit to Nullah Leh to monitor the situation.
“The Leh Expressway
is aimed at treating the city’s sewerage and providing an alternate road connecting Rawalpindi with Islamabad, which will help clean up the traffic mess on Murree Road, Peshawar Road and Airport Road,” he said.
The interior minister also said the army and other local authorities were present in the federal capital to deal with the situation.
"The army is alert, the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) is alert … the whole administration is on duty," he said.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah, Deputy Commissioner (DC), City Police Officer and several other high ranking officers were also along with Interior Minister on the occasion.
Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Managing Director Raja Shaukat Mehmood briefed the interior minister about water level in Nullah Leh.
