A policeman and three others were wounded in a firing incident in the Lyari area on Monday. According to police, the incident took place in Lyari’s Memon Society within the limits of the Kalri police station. The injured persons were taken to the Dr Ruth KM Pfau Civil Hospital, Karachi, where the condition of one of the injured persons was said to be critical.
The injured persons included a 46-year-old policeman, Aziz, son of Ali Murad, Zahid Baloch, 38, Ayaz Khan, 39 and 19-year-old Umair. SHO Arshad Khan said the incident took place at the al-Madina Hotel located in the Khadda Market area where two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on the people sitting at the eatery. The suspects managed to flee after committing the crime.
Police said that of the injured people, two, Baloch and Umair, were wounded at the eatery; whereas, the policeman and Khan, a passer-by, were wounded when police tried to intercept the fleeing suspects in the Baghdadi area.
The fleeing suspects opened fire on the police team trying to arrest them. The police team also returned fire but the suspects managed to flee. Police said the suspects were clad in pants and shirts and they wore masks.
One of the injured persons, Baloch, was said to be in a critical state and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the hospital. According to police, the actual motive and target of the suspects are yet to be ascertained and investigations are underway.
