It is good that instead of just going for complete privatisation, the government is now working towards finding a strategic partner for PIA. This initiative will serve PIA’s interests in a much better way and also provide an atmosphere conducive for its employees to work with diligence and sincerity, and none of them would be laid off.
The only difference would be that now they will be working for a profit-oriented company. It is obvious that the company will now not tolerate any slackness on their part which would mean that those among the PIA staff who feel that they can still continue with their sloppy ways would either have to tighten their belts and become efficient workers or leave the airline completely. This is a very good development and the government should earnestly pursue it.
