ISLAMABAD: Police have issued a security plan for the polling stations to be set up in the federal Capital in connection with the Azad Jammu and Kashmir general elections scheduled to be held today (Sunday).

According to the police officials, nine polling stations would be set up in the Capital, where 329 law-enforcing agencies’ personnel including 45 personnel of Rangers and the Capital police officials would be deployed for security purposes. Additional police force would also be on standby to meet any emergency-like situation, officials further said.

SSP (Operations) Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer held a meeting Friday with the police officials concerned to chalk out a strategy in this regard. Additional SP Farhat Abbas Kazmi, SP (Rural) Nosherwan, and SDPOs and SHOs of the City and rural zone attended the meeting.

The SSP directed the officials to ensure that polling camps are at least 400 metres away from the polling stations. Nobody would be allowed to display firearms in the city on the occasion of the election and every voter would be provided an atmosphere where he could freely exercise his right of vote. Syed Mustafa Tanveer further said the SDPOs and the SHOs would remain in contact with the respective presiding officers and assistant presiding officers. He directed the officials to deal with the law-breakers with an iron hand.
