The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Saturday fully activated 77-bedded Covid-19 ward at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
KMC Administrator Laeeq Ahmed, during his visit to the Covid-19 ward, also announced a month's extra pay for the doctors and paramedical staff serving in the ward. He also asked the health secretary to send the patients to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital who could not be admitted in the government-run hospitals in Sindh due to lack of capacity.
Ahmed said that there were no beds available for the coronavirus patients in the hospitals in Karachi and this was a very dangerous situation. He also asked the people to strictly follow the SOPs for Covid-19.
The administrator said due to increased social interaction on the occasion of Eid ul Adha, the number of patients of coronavirus patients in Karachi had increased immensely. On the occasion, JDC Welfare Organisation chief Zafar Abbas announced an immediate provision of 25 more ventilators and 5 ambulances. The well-equipped Covid-19 ward had been activated with 18 ventilators, ICU and other facilities so that the hospital could accommodate more patients. The administrator said that strict disciplinary action would be taken against any officer or other employee who obstructs the establishment and activation of the ward.
He said medicines, food and other facilities would be available in the ward 24 hours a day. Ahmed directed that senior professors, doctors and paramedical staff be present in the ward 24 hours a day and provide the best facilities to the patients and their families.
The administrator urged the citizens to take precautionary measures, cancel private events, minimise social interaction and take precautions in markets and crowded places.
