KARACHI: An accountability court on Tuesday again remanded Dr Asim Hussain in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) custody on physical remand for 14 days.

The attorneys for Dr Asim Hussain, a former federal minister and leader of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), constantly told the court that Dr Asim was facing detention for a long time on physical remand and NAB had completed the interrogation.

The attorneys claimed that since the interrogation had been completed, there was no justification for handing over the custody to the NAB investigators any more. The attorneys prayed to the court to pass an order for admitting an unwell Dr Asim to a hospital instead of remanding him for interrogation.

The Investigation Officer (IO), however, argued that they needed further interrogation in the case of Dr Asim who was allegedly involved in many corrupt practices while he had been working under different capacities.

The court, while considering the plea of the IO, permitted NAB to take custody of Dr Asim for interrogation on physical remand for 14 days.Dr Asim is also facing a case pertaining to the charges of provision of shelter tocriminals along with many other political leaders of different parties.

He is due to be produced before the ATC (II) on January 8 as previously the court had issued non-bailable warrants of arrest against several leaders and ordered their production before the court on January 8.
