Sindh govt appoints new Hyderabad commissioner
Karachi
A day after the Sindh government relieved serving Karachi Commissioner and posted Syed Asif Hyder Shah in his place, a similar appointment was also made in the second largest city of the province, Hyderabad, as Qazi Shahid Pervaiz (BPS-20) was notified for the office.
Shahid Pervaiz has been working as the Sindh government’s secretary of inter-provincial coordination.
The appointment has relieved now Karachi Commissioner Syed Asif Hyder Shah, a close relative of Sindh Senior Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, of his additional charge. He has replaced Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui who has been working on the post since April, 2013, however, the new commissioner has yet to take charge formally.
Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, being Commissioner Karachi, chaired various meetings as usual on Tuesday while in the evening he also attended the oath-taking ceremony of the new office-bearers of Arts Council Karachi.
The change in office of commissioner in Karachi Division is significant especially in the wake of an upcoming appointment of the city’s mayor, nominated by opposition party Muttahida Quami Movement, after the party emerged victorious in the local government election held on December 5.
The party also clinched the most number of seats in Hyderabad where it will also nominate a leader for the post of mayor.
