PESHAWAR: Three policemen were martyred in separate incidents in the provincial capital on Sunday.

In the first incident, a police constable allegedly shot dead his two senior colleagues during duty at the quarantine centre in Dauranpur locality in Peshawar.

An official said constable Abbas opened fire on his two seniors, Sub-Inspector Gul Rahman and head constable Imran when they were performing duty at the quarantine centre.

The official said the accused had been arrested. He added the motive of the murders was being investigated.

A source said the accused had recently allowed a local to go home from the quarantine centre despite the fact that he had not spent the required number of days in the facility setup to curb Covid-19.

The source said the deceased officers were angry at him and they had got his statement so that he could be held responsible in case of any inquiry by the bosses.

The source said the accused was furious as he feared the statement could be used against him anytime. Reports said another officer was also the target but he was not present in the quarantine centre.

In another incident on the service road along with the motorway, a constable of the Counter-Terrorism Department Safdar Ali was martyred by unidentified attackers.

Police officials said they were investigating the case.

An official said the police had started investigation from various angles after lodging the first information report.

He said the statement of the wife and other family members of the deceased cop had been recorded.

The funeral prayers of the fallen cops were offered at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines.

Capital City Police Officer Abbas Ahsan, SSP Operations Yasir Afridi and other officers attended the funeral. A contingent of police presented a salute to the fallen policemen. The bodies were sent to ancestral villages for burial.
