Six police officials of Karachi's Special Investigation Unit (SIU) were arrested for not disclosing the recovered 65-tola gold and cash looted from a bungalow.
According to SSP East Investigations Altaf Hussain, the female housemaids had stolen 80 tola of gold from a bungalow in Gulistan-e-Jauhar on June 24.
The case was registered at the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station. Later, the investigation police arrested two women who revealed that the officials of the SIU had conducted a raid at their house few days ago and took the looted gold away with them.
They women claimed that the officials also took a heavy bribe from their release.
However, the investigation police conducted a raid on the night between Friday and Saturday and arrested the SIU officials and recovered the looted 65-tola gold from a locker of sub-inspector Mumtaz Mahar. The arrested cops include a subinspector, two assistant subinspectors and three other officials.
Bullet-riddled body found
Police on Saturday found the bullet-riddled body of a man in the bushes on Link Road.
Rescuers transported the body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy where he was identified as 31-year-old Fazal Rehman, son of Haji Sakhi.
The Steel Town police he was shot thrice in different parts of his body.
The police were looking for the victim’s heirs while further investigation was under way to ascertain the actual motive behind the murder.
