Workers call for controlling prices
Lahore : The working class has called upon the federal and Punjab government to control the prices of essential commodities of daily use by taking action against the hoarders.
Increase in the price of petrol and other necessities of life on the eve of Eidul Aza has dampened the spirit of poor citizens. They called upon the government to implement labour laws to protect workers from exploitation. Although the laws such as Workers Welfare Fund Ordinance 1971, Companies Profits (Workers’ Participation) Act 1968, Social Security Employees Ordinance 1965 and Old Age Employees Benefit Institution 1976 were promulgated more than half a century ago, they are implemented by less than half of the industries and commercial concerns, said the workers and labour leaders at a meeting at Bakhtiar Labour Hall. Labour leader Khurshid Ahmed urged the workers to forge unity and do struggle to establish a society based on equality, fraternity and social justice.
