Collective efforts stressed to save youth from drugs
Islamabad : Inspector General Police Islamabad Qazi Jamil ur Rehman has called for collective efforts to save youth from drugs.
He was addressing a seminar in connection with use here under the auspices of Islamabad police. The IGP said that the police were working on the eradication of drugs from society. He underlined the role of ‘ulema’ for minimizing the use of drugs.
He was of the view that the police were also being made accountable when it comes to action against the drug-users and suppliers. He said many of the police officials have been penalized for their abetment to the crime. The IGP also invited the ‘ulema’ to sit in the conciliatory committees.
‘Ulema’ from all sects were invited to the seminar as senior police officials also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP (Operations) Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanweer briefed the participants about the steps taken by the police against drugs. He said that the police have taken a number of actions against the drug suppliers and added that the force has arrested over 700 drug suppliers. He also appreciated the community role in what he termed success against the criminals.
Speaking on the occasion, the ‘ulema’ appreciated the police role in curbing the crime in the city and also floated their proposals. They suggested setting up committees at the local level and inclusion of the ‘ulema’ in the conciliatory committees.
