PESHAWAR: At least 10 people were killed and 12 others injured in rain-related incidents, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the KP PDMA said at least 10 houses were damaged in rains and that relief efforts were under way. He said Secretary Relief Yousaf Rahim, at the directives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Secretary, visited rain-affected areas in Abbottabad and PDMA Director General Sharif Hussain had arrived in Shangla to review ongoing relief efforts in rain-hit areas.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast that heavy rain would continue until Friday in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, upper and central Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Multan and in most areas of the country, said Spokesman Dr Zaheer Babar.
He said urban flooding could occur in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Peshawar and Faisalabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin during the week. He also warned that heavy rains could trigger landslides in the vulnerable areas of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Flash flooding could also be expected in local and storm-water nullahs of Sialkot and Narowal, while hill torrents could be expected in Dera Ghazi Khan, Balochistan, Shangla, Buner, Batgram, Upper Swat, Kohistan and Kashmir.
