NET recovers 17kg charas, arrests 11 in Mardan

MARDAN: In a major crackdown against the drug mafia, more than 17 kilograms charas and some quantity of crystal meth (ice) were recovered by the Narcotics Eradication Team (NET) in Mardan district and 11 drug dealers were arrested, while six persons were arrested with weapons during an armed clash between two groups on Monday.

Speaking to media persons, District Police Officer Zahidullah Khan said that under the directives of IGP Moazzam Jah Ansari, the Mardan Police’s NET has started operations against the drug mafia. He said the NET formed in Mardan comprises 50 members including Elite Force personnel and police woman too, equipped with modern weapons.

The DPO said that after collecting information on the drug mafia through plainclothesmen in the limits of City, Saddar, Chura and Rustam police stations, the teams conducted raids and arrested 11 major dealers of drugs. A huge quantity of 17kg charas and 60 grams ice were seized during the actions.

Meanwhile, the cops prevented an armed clash between two rival groups in Shahbaz Ghari areas of the district.

On receiving information about the confrontation between the groups, the cops reached the area and arrested Akif Khan, Akhtar Sher, Ali Sher, Muhammad Sher, Usman Sher, and Wazir Sayed along with their weapons.

In another incident, Rustam Police Station personnel arrested three alleged ruffians who allegedly opened fire to intimidate and harass local residents.

Iftikhar, Irfan, and Nisar were arrested after they fired shots, three pistols were also seized from them and a case was registered.
