LAHORE : Citizens and animal sellers at cattle markets established at entry/exit points of the city faced inconveniences and difficulties after first monsoon rain here on Monday.
These markets turned into mini pools after the rain because the district administration did nothing to drain out the stagnant rainwater.
After the rain, roads became slippery and muddy due to which it became impossible for the citizens to reach these markets on foot. Those who tried to take their vehicles also stuck in muddy roads.
Animal traders and citizens demanded the management take arrangements to improve the situation. Many citizens said the administration should improve the arrangements.
On the other hand, prices of sacrificial animals in the markets skyrocketed. A goat was being sold for Rs50,000 to Rs80,000, a small calf for Rs1.5 to Rs2 lakh and a strong bull for Rs 3 to Rs4 lakh.
Citizens expressed concern over the prices while the sellers linked the prices to transportation charges, increased cost of fodders and other expenses. They alleged that they were forced to pay a fee to get a free stall. They demanded the administration take notice of this too.
