Qaim takes notice of deaths of four children at Khairpur hospital

SUKKUR: Taking notice of the deaths of four children at the Civil Hospital Khairpur, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali and secretary health ordered the DC and DHO health Khairpur to furnish a report within 24 hours.

Reports said that four newly-born babies died due non-availability of oxygen at the Civil Hospital Khairpur within seven hours.Heirs of the children protested and alleged that negligence of hospital staff led to death of their children. They said that non-availability of oxygen caused the deaths.

They demanded registration of an FIR against the hospital staff. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Munawar Mitahni paid a visit to the hospital and inquired reasons behind deaths of children.

The DC said that there was no criminal negligence found on the part of doctors and other staff in the preliminary report. However, he said that DHO Khairpur, MS Civil Hospital and he himself was investigating the reasons and if anyone found guilty he will face strict action. Child specialists Dr Aftab Lashari on the occasion along with MS Hospital Dr Razia Panhwar briefed the DC. They said that there was sufficient stock of oxygen available at the hospital.Dr Aftab Lashari said that premature births, infection andbeing  underweight were the reasons behind the deaths.
