ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) plans a $12,000 PSA International event at the Mushaf Ali Mir Complex late August or early September mainly to help improve leading local players' ranking who rarely get a chance of flexing their muscles amid growing Covid fears around the world.
Talking to ‘The News’, a PSF official has confirmed that PSA has been approached for the event that was meant for the local players.
“Our leading players are finding it difficult to improve or retain their PSA ranking mainly because they are not getting equal chances of playing international events. There are a couple of big reasons for that. The risk of the Covid and related expenditures are making it increasingly difficult for these players to travel off and on abroad,” he said.
“Staying at a hotel to complete a quarantine period each time you land in a country is really a tough ask financially. Secondly, you have to complete several formalities before even getting visas for European countries and Canada where the majority of events are planned these days. To help out leading circuit players we have approached the PSA to allow us to organize a $12000 Combex International Squash event in late August or early September.”
The PSF official hoped to organize bigger prize money events like CAS International event later this year.
“The higher prize money event, CAS International, is also on cards in the coming months. Besides that, we have also planned to organise a few more international events including the Asian Senior (individual) event in December this year.”
