Islamabad : The climate change ministry would set up Green Buffer Zones around Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) where no housing society would be allowed to carry out construction work by removing the green cover of the area.
According to the details, the ministry has received reports that pointed out that the green cover around MHNP is severely under attack by the housing societies that are mushrooming with each passing day.
The ministry has also decided to raise this issue in the Housing Committee that is chaired by Prime Ministry Imran Khan.
It is pertinent to mention here that a number of housing societies are carrying out construction work in the green areas located quite close to the boundary of MHNP. The proper demarcation of boundary area is yet to be completed due to which the housing societies sometimes occupy areas falling in the vicinity of the MHNP. An official said the buffer zones would be legally protected because the MHNP is now part of Ten Billion Trees Tsunami project and no one could destroy its natural green character for commercial purposes.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam has said that the ministry has asked the concerned authorities that no tree should be removed while developing model villages in the federal capital.
“We will not allow the housing societies to remove the green cover from the boundary of the MHNP because it is very much part of the ecological system of the area.
