ISLAMABAD: The climate change ministry has prepared a plan to plant trees on 60,000 kanals of land recovered from the land mafia in Lahore. According to the ministry, the land recovered from the land mafia would be transformed into jungles under the Urban Forestry Project initiated on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
“Under this plan, the forests in three cities -- Mian Channu, Kundian and Rahim Yar Khan -- will be fully restored through massive plantation drives to be launched in coordination with the local authorities,” the details revealed. The Punjab government has agreed to also plant trees on the land being recovered from the land mafia in other cities like Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Mianwali.
The Urban Forestry project is part of a Clean and Green Pakistan programme that aims at boosting tree cover in urban areas through sustainable and community-driven initiatives. The plantation of Miyawaki forests is also part of this project that will help reduce atmospheric temperature and air pollution from urban areas of the country.
