This refers to the article ‘Imran’s Chinese whispers’ (July 4) by Ghazi Salahuddin and the letters ‘In search of the best system’ (July 7) by Dr Najeeb A Khan and ‘A little bit of everything’ (July 7) by Mariam Khan. The writers criticised some of the views that were recently expressed by PM Imran Khan. While talking to the Chinese media on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), Imran Khan praised China for lifting its nation from the abyss of abject poverty and backwardness to a high level of prosperity and advancement in knowledge and technology on a par with that of the most prosperous countries of the world. In this connection, he cited some of the good features of its system which enabled it to achieve this success. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that he wanted to adopt some or all of them in Pakistan.
There is nothing wrong, though, in adopting good things of other political systems, nor is there anything wrong in seeking professional expertise and financial support of friendly nations in combating the threat of terrorism without compromising our national interests in doing so. This is the substance of what Imran Khan said, and we shouldn’t try to read more into it.
