The following lines were probably said for artists like the legendary Dilip Kumar: Dhundo gay agar mulkoon mulkoon, milnay kay nahin nayab hain hum [Even if you search from nation to nation, you won’t find anyone like me for I’m a rare jewel]. Dilip Kumar will remain alive for centuries to come; my generation grew up watching his movies and he was the favourite movie star of my parents. He knew the art of method acting which no actor could master. His eloquence was unparalleled. His openheartedness was evident when he paid glowing tributes to Melody Queen Noor Jehan in a show; the selection of words was unique and so was the superb way of expressing them.
Dilip Kumar was loved by almost every Pakistani. He was popular on both sides of the border. He also played a major role in defusing tensions between India and Pakistan during the Kargil war. He was a great star and a legend. But, above all, he was a great human being, free from any worldly boundaries. His art was for humanity – not for any country, religion or society. RIP, Yusuf Khan
