KARACHI: Sindh Irrigation Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal has claimed the water crisis in the province is getting worse as the province has been left with insufficient quantity of water that could last for just 10 to 12 days more.
Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, Siyal said the water crisis in the province would further aggravate if monsoon rains did not occur in this season.
He said the worsening situation of water crisis could create drought-like conditions in Sindh, as canals are drying up while rivers have also not been receiving the required quantity of water.
He said cultivation in the province was badly affected, as Sindh had been getting 21 per cent less water than its due share.
He said the water available in the province was merely sufficient for 10 to 12 days’ needs of the people from Kashmore to Karachi. The minister said the Meteorological Department had also warned that 10 districts of Sindh could face drought-like conditions. He said the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) had failed to fulfil its obligations with regard to just distribution of the river water among the provinces.
