This refers to news item, ‘PCB rejects Azhar Ali’s resignation over Amir return’ (December 29). The PCB chairman should have accepted ODI captain Azhar Ali’s resignation.
His resignation was not based on national interests but on personal grounds: to pressurise the PCB in order to oust Muhammad Amir from the national team. Moreover, Azhar is not a match-winning batsman and his performance as the ODI captain has been well below average. Had his resignation been accepted, there would have been better candidates to fill in the vacancy.
