Islamabad: Police have arrested 63 persons on charges of drug-peddling during an accelerated drive against anti-social elements.
According to SSP (Operations) Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanweer, under the direction of IG Islamabad Qazi Jamil ur Rehman, a special intelligence-based campaign has been launched in the city. He said special squads have been constituted under Additional SP Islamabad Farhat Abbas Kazmi.
He was of the view that the supply of drugs cannot be checked completely until there is demand in the society and added the police have decided to put a hand on the drug users. He said both young boys and girls are among the drug users and warned the parents to keep a check on their children in this regard.
The SSP said that during the past two weeks, 63 persons involved in supplying drugs to youth were arrested. He said the police have recovered 46 kilograms of charas, 1700 grams of heroin, 1147gms of ice, 40 grams of cocaine, and tranquilizers from the accused as well.
Mustafa Tanweer said that few foreigners are also among the accused who were caught red-handed. The SSP said that the drug suppliers contact the suppliers on the phone and the former gives supply to the users at the desired location. He claimed that the police have broken the network of the suppliers. He asked the citizens to help police identify the people involved in the drug business so that society could get rid of the menace.
