LAHORE: Except for one, almost all the top favourites of the 4th day summer meeting of the Lahore Race Club were beaten fair and square here on Sunday night.
In six of the seven races of the day, there were upsets at the first positions. There were four back to back upsets from race one to four while favourite in the fifth lived up to the expectations but the sixth and seventh races too was claimed by fillies which were either on fluke or were not among the favourites.
In the opening race, Pyari Guria extracted first upset of the day when it was expected to take the place. It galloped to lead by a neck from the start and it maintained it till it crossed the finish line. In this race favourite was Maharban but it had to content for a second place while an unexpected Hassan Da Pyar was third.
Similarly in the second race, Prince Of Baghban that was expected to take the place turned out to be the winner. However, Gold and Zahid Love were nowhere among the favourites but they won second and third places respectively.
In the third race, Wahab Choice saddled out of the pack to win the race unexpectedly while favourite Safder Princess slipped to second place and a surprise third was Bright Gold. In the fourth race, Master Prince surprised everyone by winning the first position. Second surprise of the race was given by Code Cracker. However, favourite Chan Pari was pushed to third position.
The fifth race saw Salam-e-Lahore, the favourite, claimed the first position ahead of Diana, which was second and Last One, which was third. Another upset of the day was shown by Drums Of War in the sixth race. In this race Mirza One was favourite but it became second. However, Salam-e-Dera was a surprise third.
In the final race the favourite switched places from their predicted positions. Amanah, expected to take the place in fact won it. The favourite, Mr Gondal became second and Missing My Love that was favourite for second place claimed the third spot.
