Textile mill worker gunned down in Liaquatabad
Two suspects killed an employee of a textile mill in an act of target killing in Liaquatabad on Monday.
Sharifabad police said 26-year-old Shaikh Aizaz was attacked on the Karimabad flyover when he was going to his workplace, located in the Karimabad area, on a motorcycle. He died shortly after one of the two men, also riding a motorcycle, shot him twice in his head and chest.
His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. Police said the deceased was a resident of the Qasimabad area of Liaquatabad and was on his way to the textile mill where he worked. They said the attackers had been following him.
He had been the sole breadwinner of his family since his father died a few years ago. SHO Abdul Khaliq Ansari confirmed that the incident was an act of target killing and the motive behind the incident was yet to be ascertained. However, he said, the incident had apparently taken place over a personal enmity.
Police found two empty shells of a 9mm pistol at the crime scene and sent them to the forensic division of the Sindh police for ballistics cross-matching. Separately, a young man was shot and injured in a firing incident that took place over when he offered resistance to a mugging bid in the Shah Latif locality.
He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medical treatment. Police said the man ran a mobile phone shop and the incident took place when he was returning after withdrawing Rs200,000 from a bank. In another incident, 15-yar-old Fahad, son of Fayyaz, was wounded after he resisted a mugging bid in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. He was taken to the JPMC for medical treatment.
Robber injured
A robber was arrested on Monday after he was injured by the firing of his accomplice during a robbery bid in the Malir Cantonment area. The CCTV footage of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed the two suspects arriving on a motorcycle to rob a lawyer, Muhammad Umar. However, a brave young man standing nearby grabbed one of the robbers, prompting the other to open fire, which injured his accomplice.
Both the suspects managed to escape the scene but police took action and arrested the injured suspect, Rab Nawaz, from Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he had gone to seek treatment. Police said the suspect had posed as a victim of street crime at the hospital.
