Karachi police chief inaugurates Urban Flooding Rescue Unit

Karachi police chief Imran Yaqoob Minhas on Saturday inaugurated an Urban Flooding Rescue Unit, which has been established by the Security Division of the Sindh Police.

DIG Maqsood Ahmed Memon, chief of Security Division, said on Saturday Additional IGP Karachi Imran Yaqoob Minhas visited the Special Security Unit headquarters, where he was welcomed by him and other senior officers.

The top cop of the city was presented with a guard of honor by a contingent of the SSU.

The additional IGP presided over a meeting at the SSU conference hall, where he was briefed about different sections of the unit by DIG Ahmed.

Commandant SSU Zeeshan Shafique Siddiqui, SSP Court Police Ch. Asad, SP Security-II Amjad Hayat, SP FSC Abdul Qayoom Pitafi, SP Madadgar-15 Abdullah Memon, SP SSU Irum Awan, SP Chowkandi Dr Najeeb and SP Security-I Asghar Usman attended the meeting.

Police chief Minhas commended the professional policing standards maintained in the Special Security Unit with reference to the course of work in management, administration and counterterrorism operations as well as endeavours to enhance professionalism as per international standards.

He inaugurated the Urban Flooding Rescue Unit at the SSU headquarters, constituted under the supervision of DIG Memon.

DIG Memon stated that the Urban Flooding Rescue Unit comprised SSU commandos equipped with the latest rescue gadgets, and small boats would stay alert round the clock to respond to any situation during heavy rainfall.

Later, Additional IGP Minhas also witnessed a mock exercise conducted by commandos of the Special Weapons and Tactics Teamm and the DIG security presented a shield to the police chief.
