PESHAWAR: A senior administrative official on Friday praised the Khyber Eye Foundation Hospital Peshawar, a charitable health facility for free-of-cost treatment to the poor.

Deputy Commissioner Khalid Mehmood inspected different sections, including operation theater, wards, clinic and other departments of the hospital located in Gulbahar Colony No 4.

Chairman of the hospital Faiz Muhammad Faizi, Khalid Sultan Khwaja, Ghayyar Sethi, Shaukat Bashir, Obaid Siddique, Malik Muhammad Ali, Luqman Shah, Taimoor Shah, administrative officers, representatives from relevant stakeholders and philanthropists were present.

The deputy commissioner was briefed about different facilities, use of modern technology, gadgets and equipment in surgery and other functions, especially the provision of free-of-cost treatment to patients.

He was informed that surgeries of over 9,000 people have been done free of cost at the hospital so far while the facility was being equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and gadgets.

Faiz Muhammad requested the deputy commissioner to order the removal of encroachments from the front of the hospital. The official said the service to ailing humanity was a religious obligation and Khyber Eye Foundation Hospital had played a pivotal role in this regard.

About the ongoing vaccination campaign against coronavirus, he said: “The government had set a vaccination target of 2.2 million in the Peshawar district. But only 300,000 people have been vaccinated in the district against Covid-19 during the last three to four months.”

He said vaccinating the remaining 1.9 million people in Peshawar was a daunting task for the government.

The official feared that Peshawar could be worst affected if the fourth wave of Covid-19 surfaced as the vaccination rate was very low in the district as compared to other parts of the province.

The deputy commissioner sought the support of Khyber Eye Hospital, business community and people from different walks of life to meet the vaccination target as soon as possible.
