IGP urges ulema to promote peace

PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police Moazzam Jah Ansari has asked religious scholars to promote peace, tranquility and brotherhood in the society.

He was talking to a 15-member delegation of the ulema Council from Madrassa Haqqania Akora Khattak, which called on him at his office. Maulana Yousaf Shah led the delegation, said a handout.

Other members of the delegation included Mufti Zafar Zaman Haqqani, Maulana Abdul Haseeb Haqqani, Maulana Sahib Hussain, Naveed Ahmad, Sarkani, Maulana Tayyab Qureshi, Maulana Bin Umar Abdul Aziz and Maulana Miraj-ud-Din Sarkai.

The IGP said the ulema had played a pivotal role in the Pakistan Movement as well as the integrity of the country.

He added that Islam is the religion of peace and tranquility, adding great responsibility rests with ulema to reform the people.

The IGP asserted that spreading hate and violence was an unwanted act. He urged the ulema to come forward and foil such attempts with the active support of the public.

He urged the ulema to sensitise the people and propagate religious harmony and Muslim unity in Friday sermons. The members of the delegation vowed to foil all conspiracies through collective efforts. They assured all possible support to the police against miscreants and anti-social elements.
